Jury Duty Blogging

It should first be noted that I am writing this post while in jury duty. I have been sworn in already so I am unable to lie in my writing.

I got some good ideas from those who submitted them last night on my previous post. I think the most fun to do while sitting in the jury room today will be Huckdoll‘s $10,000 challenge. However, in fairness to the other ideas, I will address all of them first.

@AWholeLotOfNothing – I won’t get all mushy here, I’ll send you one in private. Besides, I thought every day with me was a love letter in itself? Sheesh you are demanding! ;) But I will not blow all my dough in one store as easy as that may be. I will go there, but not crazy!

@raino – You may win the long term prize as I have and will continue to write about all those things. Although the “is it ok to lie” idea is very intriguing and I will ponder that for a little before I write.

@Tara R – Obviously being in this room today, no one can tell me how they got out of jury duty cause we all failed! Unless somehow you are a schmoron and cannot read that if you are or were a convicted felon and still came here this morning.

Ok, so someone just gave me $10,000 and I have to spend it on myself and no debts. This is similar to Brewster’s Millions except I can have assets and I get no prize at the end, just more stuff.

This could be a really simple one item but for the sake of fun, I will make it harder. We all know it would be wisest to take that money and put a down payment on a second house, maybe on a lake, or at least a piece of property, also on a lake.

I could be boring and just pump it all into some currently good long term stocks and investments. Which is most certainly what I would do as that would eventually give me more cash for stuff. If I didn’t, I would be the real idiot I think.

But, for the sake of fun, let’s go shopping!

Of course, I would go to the Apple store. Instead of spending it all though, I will spend $3200 on a shiny new MacBook Pro. 15″ maxed out on the important stuff. It’s just pretty. While there I will also buy an iTunes gift card for $1,000 just cause I know I’ll use every last bit of it in the coming month or months!

After that, I would likely head out to the Lucky Store or just any department store to get some new threads. I have a shirt on today for instance that I have been wearing for 7 or 8 years. All I wear are Lucky Brand jeans and I would likely wait until the 50% off sale to go shop. But we’ll say I spend $1,000 on clothes for myself. Yuck to shop for that much clothing, but it aint really gonna happen so that’s ok!

$4,800 left

Since I enjoy writing, I am going to spend $450 on a pen. Yup, a pen. A really fancy Mont Blanc pen. I love an instrument of writing that feels good in my hand, and these are the best so I am told.

$4,350 left

Let’s go see some hockey next. I will buy a mini-season ticket plan for the NY Islanders. 5 games plus 5 round trip tickets to NY from FL and I’m looking at a cost of $1350 without incidentals. Really, that’s all it costs.

$3,000 left

Let’s grab some badass headphones for my iPod listening pleasure. I’m gonna snag some Sennheiser HD-595′s for $200. I don;t need them, I got some good ones, but I bet these sound GREAT!

$2800 left

Alright, I may be bending the rules a bit with this but this is what I would want. First, I am going to buy a bottle of Grand Marnier 150 for $200. The finest liqueur I have ever sipped.

Then the rest of my dollars will be spent flying some of you, my dearest blogger friends, to my hometown to sit and enjoy this bottle of spirits with over a long weekend. I would cover all expenses, airfare, hotels for everyone including me, food, booze, extra tickets, everything. The only rule would be no children. This would be an adults only weekend extravaganza.

How is this FOR me you might ask? Because the memories, pictures, and stories that would come from a boozing weekend of storytellers would be endless. Not to mention the good feeling I get when I can spend my own money and time on other people that may make them smile even if only for a minute. The rest is just stuff that will eventually break or get used up, but a weekend like this? Forever and priceless. Seriously, I love each and every one of you guys.

Thanks for reading!

$2800 is not much to pay for my flight and accomodation :-)
Let’s say I’ll pay for my own food (not drinks)

That $450 pen better write liquid gold that prevents wrinkles AND babysits my girls every Saturday night for one full year. Holy shit.

Awwwww, to your blogger gathering – that’s awesome. Don’t be surprised if the bottle of Grand Marnier and I are found passed out in the bush together though :)

A fabulous list! But I’m not sure I’d ever make it out of the Mac store. :)
