Emergency Daddy Date

The worst and hardest part about having 2 kids is when one gets sick and the other is just fine. What generally happens is the sick kid gets loads of extra attention because as a parent you hate to see them so miserable. Especially when they are as young as my girls.

My littlest girl went to the doctor today. She had a 103 degree fever, a double ear infection, a urinary tract infection, and an upper respiratory infection. Maybe she should have athletes foot too just so we get total head to toe coverage.

Well, my oldest little one today got rejected on her usual scheduled playtime at gymboree and another not so fun evening on tap. So I left work and picked her up at her sisters doctor office. I offered the wife to go instead of me and I would stay with the sick kid but was rejected. On tap was kind of a wing job, but I think we did fine. We went to best buy and bought Wall-E and a surprise cinderella movie for her sister to pep her back up. My little girl is just like me and she LOVES to just walk around and look at all the stuff so I let her lead.

After that we went to the bookstore, her favorite store, where she saw a classmate and shyly rejected said mates mothers attempts at conversation. I read her one book, looked at the clock, checked the dinner schedule and away we went. I decided I would take her to a movie. We went to Madagascar 2 and I was quite surprised at how enjoyable and funny I found it to be. Of course she enjoyed it as well. The best part though was she stretched out on my lap for 90% of the movie. I love to snuggle with my babies and don’t get to often enough or long enough.

Next up she insisted we go to 5 guys burgers and fries for dinner. If you don’t have one of these near you, find one. NOW. They are seriously the best burgers as well as the cheapest. So we sat and ate and had just the most wonderful conversation about her day and our activities and anything else that popped into her little elaborate brain. I didn’t get any pictures though as work was bugging me the majority of the time and I didn’t want to break her conversational rhythm.

I hope the younger one gets to feeling better soon.

Poor Bear! But I do remember those “Daddy Date Nights” that I used to have with Dad…regardless of why you didn’t or couldn’t come along I still remember those being so special to me and I am sure that Banana will too! I miss those girls so much it hurts and I can not believe I will not see them until the wedding! :( That breaks my heart! Tell me again why you cant come to FWB for thanksgiving????? Can’t you change just ONE year and not go to Jacksonville?? Dont forget that in a few short years I will be moving to MO with David! Just thought I’d throw that out there….

Such a good daddy. Moments like these are ones that your daughters will always remember. It’s just the simple stuff like this, taking time for a movie and hanging out and a burger with fries (mmm, burger. fries…) and just being together. How awesome that you are able to step away from work enough to make it happen. Hope your little one is feeling better, too.
