Rambling On

February 24th, 2009 — 9:37pm

I don’t really have much of a post for this evening, or of late. So many things going on in the past 2 weeks and most of which I’m not prepared to share with the entire world. Those in the know, know, and I am fine with that. Sorry if that seems cryptic but it’s probably better that way. So instead I’ll just run off some random items coursing through my head at the moment.

Today I ended up working over 9 hours and that was totally unexpected. About 3.5 hours of that was spent in meetings involving my CIO, or the big boss. There was about an hour of that spent 1 on 1 with her and that was kind of nice. I’ve never spent that kind of time with her before so it was nice to have that kind of conversation. Most of it was spent discussing HR related items, but was quite productive.

My back is killing me today as punishment for not playing soccer in a few months. I played all 44 minutes of the game and although we lost, we played quite well and I setup some good scoring opportunities. More importantly, it was fun.

If you have not read A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose then you should do so now. It is amazing to me the things I have learned about myself in this book and about the reasons for which people act as they do. Some of you are in serious need of some adjustments! *wink* Seriously though, I think if we all could follow some of what this book teaches, the world would be a better place. I think when I finish it, I will just read it again to pick up on things I may have missed.

In roughly 2 months I will be walking my sister down the aisle. I am excited and honored to have this duty as my father is no longer with us. He will be there in spirit and I know I will feel his energy as we make the walk of walks. I am a little nervous about the duties that the father of the bride undertake at the reception, but I will do my best. I will have something prepared to say from my heart as well as from my father’s. Don’t think I will skip out on the dance either sis, I’ve already picked the song. (I hope you don’t mind).

The President is on. He’s pissing off republicans and pleasing the democrats. I am pleased with the news and cannot imagine it being any worse than the last asshole in the job. Anyway, I noticed on a national news show recently that the news media is really propagating the segregation in this country amongst republicans and democrats. Watch the national news, everything is either what one party or the other is saying or doing. It’s not senators and congressmen, its all republicans and democrats. It’s quite disgusting. If they could start referring to the job being done by elected officials, regardless of party affiliation, perhaps the mindset of the country can begin to alter into a bi-partisan mode. If we all work together, we will all progress together. Enough of the bullshit media mongers, lets just be Americans.

Oh yeah, happy Fat Tuesday Mardis Gras people, today I was given beads from a previous celebration from an official krewe of New Orleans. No boobs were exposed to earn these beads either. Nor will any boobs get them away so please keep your boobies in. Unless you want to share but I won’t send my beads!

In honor of Mardis Gras, enjoy this tune…

Whew…

February 22nd, 2009 — 5:13pm

This weekend ended up being quite a busy couple of days. I think Friday night was probably the only lazy evening. Saturday had an interesting meeting during the day, but a fun and raucous evening with friends at a birthday celebration. Universal CityWalk was the backdrop for dinner and drinks at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville followed by some piano bar singing and drinks at Pat O’Briens. Good food, good drinks, good people and good times sans the children.

Sunday was a day downtown. We started at the Lake Eola Farmer’s Market. We discovered this last weekend and enjoyed it so much we decided we should go as much as possible. It happens every Sunday and is free admission. There are food vendors and crafty vendors, and some fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. If you go for anything, let it be the grilled corn on the cob and the Belgian guy making his native country’s waffles with a native country recipe. Seriously delicious. This weekend was also an Art and Music festival at Lake Eola so there was a ton more things to eat, see and hear. We didn’t really go into this area as we had planned on taking a walk through downtown to City Hall where the Orlando Blues-B-Q festival was also taking place. All free to enter, you jst pay for what you eat and drink. By the time we got to the blues fest we were all tired and it got loud and crowded so we only stayed for a few mintes before walking back to the car.

Oh yeah, the weather? Could not have been more perfect to be outside. Jeans or shorts, no one was breaking a sweat in the breezy 76 degree sunshine. All weekend actually, mid-70′s, bright sunshine, and pure Florida beauty at it’s best.

Some pics worth sharing…

Benched

February 18th, 2009 — 3:01pm

This season hockeyman will be moving over to the soccer pitch. Need to save up money for the next hockey season if there is one to return to. I could have plunked another $300 on my credit cards, but I’m really trying to be more financially responsible these days and the soccer is free. Plus, $300 is a lot of dough for 14 or 15 games, especially with no goaltender discount as many teams generally offer. Maybe I’ll start watching Lost again now that I will have my Wednesday nights free.

Last week, the rest of the family got hit with a wicked stomach flu and all I got was a nasty cold and sinus infection. Until yesterday. Yesterday I got to experience the joys of a stomach flu. Not gonna get into details, but if you catch this thing as much of the Southeastern region of the US has, bring a bucket with you to the bathroom. Just in case.

At least though today I have kept my toast down. I guess my health is looking up in time for the downtown Orlando Blues & BBQ fest this weekend. Mmmm….
