So my post last night, the letter to Guster, did not fall on deaf ears. Today I got a direct message from the boys in the band regarding my posted letter that started with the Twitter line of conversation about a t-shirt. They gave me a direct contact, no you cannot have it, and I will be on the guest list the next time the guys come to play in my neck of the woods. Since this is one of my most favorite bands, I am simply beside myself at this news. Hopefully I’ll get to meet the guys before the show and personally thank them for the music they write. Seriously, no, you cannot have the contact info no matter what you ask for or offer in return. I’m not a crazy fan and I respect the privacy of those who find a public spotlight. Coulda bugged Justin Timberlake once, didn’t. Tiger Woods having lunch with his mother was not interrupted by a silly fan request. Celebrities are people too and if I meet someone famous, I want it to be on natural terms and not just cause they got recognized…..again.
Thanks Guster, I am honestly just looking forward to seeing you guys perform live again.
On a side note, today we went to my cousin’s wedding 2 hours up the road on the beach. The sunshine was lovely, the sounds of the waves were perfect and everything happened without a hitch. However, it was right on the beach and it was quite windy outside but still a great setting and a great party. Congratulations to him and a big welcome to our family’s new additions.
Recently I saw a tweet from one of my favorite bands, Guster. “http://twitpic.com/3bw2g – Full disclosure- THIS is the first shirt i designed. Total sales: 6. Nerds? Anyone?” So after reading and looking at this, I responded right away. After all, I am one of those 6 mentioned in this tweet. I have had this shirt for a long time and loved when it was shipped to me in a used Honey Nut Cheerios box. Recycling at its finest. I also got the Guster is my co-pilot shirt and a hat. Anyway, if you read my blog and follow my twitter you’ll know I am a huge fan of the music Guster makes. Needless to say, I was so very excited to find this reply to me on Twitter from Guster. “@hockeymandad good idea. post a photo of yourself in the “10 print..” shirt- guest list for any of our april college shows. all 6 of you.”
So to my friends at Guster, I would so very much love to attend ANY of the April college shows but as the name of my blog implies, I am a Dad. I am a Dad to two little Gusteroids I might add who love your music as much as I do. These 2 little beauties make it almost impossible for me to travel to a concert especially with my week of family weddings next week. These kids enjoy Guster music so much, my oldest named one of her MANY stuffed Penguins Guster. So I am hopeful that when you do make it to Orlando, the offer for a guest list invite will still apply. If you play an afternoon show, I’ll bring the kiddos, otherwise that would be way past their bedtime and mom and I will have to enjoy without them. As we would… For further evidence that I do own the shirt in question, here I am with it on fresh out of the dryer.
For further evidence and a little embarrassment to myself, here are a couple videos I took of myself dancing with my oldest daughter and actually wearing the shirt in the video to some Guster on Ice. The second video are both girls dancing to their most favorite song, Fa Fa. These videos were made and posted in October 2008.
