Late Wordless Wednesday

July 29th, 2009 — 10:51pm

I know Wednesday is over, but I shot this today with my iPhone. I had some ideas for a regular post but never managed to get to it with my busy evening. Anyway, nothing like seeing a rainbow that seems to originate from your house on the commute home from work.

My BlogHer Recap

July 28th, 2009 — 9:43pm

Wow, what an amazing 3 days in the windy city. Everyone was looking their best and amidst the squees, the tears of joy, the hugging, the kissing, the kissing ON the lips, true friendships were cemented from their online origins. I think what I will remember the most, the part that touched my heart more than all the rest, and boy were there many to choose from, was the moment when widuhewpfui….

“Dadah, can you put Playhouse Disney On? It’s pet summer day.”

“Huh? *slurrrp* What?”

“Dadah, will you make my breakfast?”

“ohhhhh kayyyy”

Almost forgot there. I didn’t go to BlogHer. Among all the other recap posts I just wanted to fit in with all the cool kids who have actual real recap posts. Just like this one, this one, this one, that one, this other one, and that one. I know there are lots more that are likely filling your reader and that’s cool. I will be around there next year. I’m just going for the parties and the meet-ups. Since it’s in New York I’ll take advantage of the time in my favorite city to meet and greet with family I don’t get to see as often as I’d like. Hopefully catch a ball game or 2 at Citi Field as well with some baseball loving friends.

As much fun as it looked like everyone had, and as much fun as the wife said it was, I had a great time myself with my 2 babies. We explored and laughed and played and danced. It made me want to be a SAHD but my skill set is worth more in the job market so I will continue to run the rat race. The last 2 days pretty much sucked ass with the craziness at work but I can deal with it. I just greatly prefer the hard work of full time child care than that of full time adult supervision.

Seriously though, I am enjoying the pictures, stories, and recaps of the conference. It looked like fun!

Blinded By Science

July 24th, 2009 — 11:48pm

Daddy Day 2 took place at our local Science Center. I wasn’t sure what really to expect or even if the girls would embrace all that would be offered. I knew there was a Mr. Potato Head exhibit so I guessed they might enjoy that and we might spend a couple hours there.

Those couple hours turned into 5 hours. 5 hours of non-stop excitement and interacting and playing with EVERYTHING. Oh yeah, I should also mention that according to signs the building was “Experiencing Air Conditioning Challenges” on this day. Translation: the A/C is broke. They did have a bunch of fans in some areas and each floor had a volunteer employee handing out cold bottled water to anyone who asked. So for the most part the place was exceptionally warm. According to the friendly staff this has been a “challenge” for them for the past 4 weeks. I feel bad for them as this is peak season with all the summer camps and group visits as we experienced on this day as well.

Nothing deterred these kids though. They went from each little activity to the next with such excitement it was like the next present on Christmas morning. They were already asking when they could come back as we settled into the cafe for some lunch. Lunch was also eaten after finishing just the first of four full floors to explore.

Their favorite part though was hands down the Grossology exhibit. This area is an exploration in all things bodily fluids and functions. From poop to belching, they got it all covered in a highly entertaining way I might add. What they loved most was the giant digestion attraction. The kids can climb up a little wall shaped like a mouth and once “chewed” up the slide down the esophagus into the big tummy area. After this they find the tube, or intestines, and crawl through until they come out the rectum. Yep, poop. They loved the idea!

After a few more hours and a few more floors, we ended our day in the CineDome. The movie is included in the ticket which is a nice feature as I remember these things always costing extra. Still, the movie is on an 8 story screen surrounded by 200 speakers. We watched an Under the Sea flick but they also have a grand canyon feature as well. This room also hosts some laser light shows, planetarium activities, and classic album nights where they blast classic rock records. Sweet.

The only trouble we ran into, at least to me, was the cost. The cost of a family of 4 would have run about $40 as Orlando residents. This seemed a little high to me, but alas, they have memberships. Usually I shy away from these things as they are much more expensive. However, our place here charges $125 for a family membership. This allows 2 adults and a bunch of kids for a year from purchase. Nice. They also include parking which is $5 a pop and discounts in the cafe and store, and all the CineDome movies you care to go see. So as a trial run I paid a normal admission and judging how the kids enjoyed it would buy a membership later. You can apply that days admission towards the membership so they encourage the idea as well. Needless to say, we are members and after we go just 2 more times all together the passes would have paid for themselves. Adding an alternative to the theme parks in an inexpensive way and in a place where they will learn things? Easy choice.

Here are my pics from the day. Enjoy as I did.
