Because someone should write a new post during blogher!

July 23rd, 2009 — 3:26pm

As the blogging world descends on Chicago for the annual BlogHer conference, I decided someone like me should write a non-scheduled current post. Of course this post will NOT be about BlogHer. Obviously, I’m not there. Even Twitter is all full of squeeing, squishing, tackling and cackling in an all out bloggy love fest. So here is a real post written today about something other than the annual blog writer gathering.

Have fun dear. Really.

As I am home with my girls for a few days on my own, I have to plan out days that will keep my sanity and keep my girls entertained. Let’s look at Day 1. After waking up very early to bring the wife to the airport, the girls and I promptly returned home for breakfast and relaxing time. After that, the fun for today had to begin so we ventured off to lunch at the Chick Fil A, complete with indoor playground. I must ask though what that smell is in there? It’s not of bodily fluids and it’s not of normal disinfectants. It’s just odd and kinda gross so we left after about 15 minutes inside.

We left to go to the local cinemaplex to see the new Ice Age movie. It was alright, not as good as previous editions and nowhere close to the quality of Pixar movies. Even though I did not purchase one for myself, I was excited to see they now sell wine and beer there.

After the movie, I had an ace up my sleeve and played it well. I surprised the girls and took them to a local establishment called the Firkin Kegler which is similar in style to a Dave & Buster’s. The girls were quite excited to get to play some mini-bowling as we usually only get there on weekends and it’s almost always reserved for a party. So we played that and then proceeded to the arcade to play some other games as well. Good times had by all.

Now we are in a resting phase, much to their dismay, but they do need it. They were up late last night and early today. So I popped in the much requested Star Wars episode 3, the next in the saga to the newest audience. The youngest has told me at least 10 times how much she really really really really really misses her mama. Being home in a few days is my response and the truth even though she doesn’t like it.

Here are some pictures from today….enjoy!

Are you ready?

July 20th, 2009 — 9:50pm

for some football? Fantasy that is. I had an idea that I thought might be fun. I want to create a free fantasy football league made up of only my blog and Twitter friends. Whether you’re experienced or a newbie, you’re invited. It will be a free league based on ESPN. Currently there are no prizes but I think via the power of Twitter and my blog readers we may be able to muster up something cool for the winner. Perhaps even some other prizes depending on the interest and response. So here’s the deal, I can create a league with up to 20 teams. If it seems early to think about this stuff, NFL training camps start opening next week.

So who wants to have some fun? There are already 4 spots taken so 16 remain. Either leave a comment here or shoot me a tweet at @hockeymandad on Twitter and I’ll reserve a spot for you.

Better Than Coffee

July 17th, 2009 — 8:38am

Ok, I’m writing this post at work because I just had to put it down before I forget or something else interesting happens to me today.

I just want to say how totally melted I was this morning when I saw my 5 year old FORCE herself to wake up when she half heard me done getting ready for work. She stayed asleep yesterday and was upset by that. Why would she do this? Because when she does, I carry her from my room into the living room, turn on her morning Disney shows, make her breakfast, and kiss her goodbye before I leave for work. To see something so trivial mean that much to her just made me weak in the knees as I exited stage left through the garage. Damn, I love that kid.

Okay, back to work…
