Today the family ventured out into the wild to a local neighborhood pie festival. On the way to the festival I sat in the way back of the modern day supercharged turbo Brady mobile. Also known as the mini-van. I now the Brady’s had a station wagon but today? Mike and Carol would totally rock the mini-van. Sitting in the way back means you cannot hear any conversation in front of you and it’s like a mini isolation chamber. Speaker in your ear and all the voices traveling the other way, perhaps a good thing, perhaps a bad thing, I wouldn’t know! I sat in the way back because I was giving up the front seat to my mom who was in town for the weekend and stayed with us for one night.
Anyway, sitting in the back I got to watch what my kids do. A quiet observation. One was into her own world, the other, reading her books. I liked snapping a picture over her head without noticing. Think she likes Penguins(animal and hockey team)?

The festival was ok in terms of pies. There was no savory pies, booooo. Also, not a wide variety of flavors with what was there. Pretty much just all the poplar basics. Disappointing really. Even more disappointing was how you got each piece. In its own plastic container. What a waste of plastic and resources considering Earth Day was a few days ago. Dumb. We only made one pass at the pie buffet, not because it wasn’t any good, it just wasn’t exciting enough to go back through again. Here’s our spread.

She liked the pies, more so the ice cream.

What was fun was all the kids activities. The kids made their own pies, decorated some wings to wear, yadda yadda yadda. They loved it. They also loved having their faces painted. We ended up with a penguin (see above) and a butterfly(colored to match her outfit).

Beyond that though, the festival was meh. The kids had a great time though so that’s all that matters. I had promised to be a designated driver for my wife on her pie sugar crash, but it wasn’t needed. After mom took s to dinner though, she needed the driver and I obliged.
The festival looked to be all staffed by volunteers. I wonder what they get for their services? A pie festival pt on by the American Pie Council, who knew there was such a thing, can not provide rewards like helping sick kids or free rounds of golf. When I volunteered for a PGA Tour event, I got a free round of golf and lunch on Arnold Palmer’s private and famous Bay Hill Club and Lodge. Not to mention I got to hang out and watch the likes of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods play golf for free. They shot below 70, but on my round without a crowd to keep errant tee shots in the fairway, I shot an 89. I guess these folks get some free pie. Ours was free too, not sure exactly how, but we had free $10 all you can eat tickets. I’d bet my 89 on a PGA course, including a birdie on 17 and a par on 18, was way more rewarding than some free pie.
Hope you all had a pleasant weekend, but now back to the grind and the routine. The routine I don’t mind, it’s the grind that sucks. Bleh.
