Almost Time

July 24th, 2010 — 12:06am

It’s almost BlogHer. I got my cocktail pass yesterday. Looking forward to it as well as being in the area I was born. Seeing family in the homes I grew up in always gets me excited.

For the weekend, here is one of my new favorite songs. Let it be stuck in your head too. Martin, I think you’ll like it if you haven’t heard it yet.

Phosphorescent – The Mermaid Parade (Dead Oceans)

Back to Normal

July 16th, 2010 — 12:02am

Ahhhh, my house is full of all its residents once again. This is both perfect and almost perfect at the same time.

How do you say that Hockeymandad you ask yourself, I will explain.

While I was home this afternoon with the girls, we played some Wii bowling. After we all played each other, they asked me to play alone while they finished their snack. They witnessed perfection.

That’s right my friends, that’s a Wii Sports Resort perfect game. Ahhhhh yeah.

Since snack time wasn’t over I asked if they wanted to see 100-pin bowling. YEAH! was the overwhelming response. They liked the red pin and how many pins there were. What they witnessed here, was almost perfection.

DOH! That may be harder to do than pull off the back to back perfect games. I missed 1 pin on the LAST. DAMN. THROW.

More importantly though, the wife is back home safe, sound, and healthy. Hospitals suck, especially when you’re stuck in one. Welcome home, we missed you and we love you.

Make. It. Stop. Please?

July 15th, 2010 — 12:05am

After the wonderment that was Monday, you know, the meeting where told we needed to work more and harder? Sigh. Go here. Turns out that was easy compared to Tuesday.

Tuesday started off all normal and fine. Typical morning. Typical lunch time. Settle in to the afternoon haul until 5. Only this was not to be. The IM came in from the wife that she was not acting liking a hypochondriac and needed to see a doctor. I have never thought of her as a hypochondriac. Turns out she had been feeling some weird thumps in her chest the night before, paired with some lightheaded dizziness. So she consulted with our Aunt Becky and was instructed to go see the doctor straight away. I agreed when I got the message. I’ll keep it brief from her side because it’s her story.

Doctor had no more openings today.

Setup appointment online with miniER. Yes, online. They rock like that.

So she picked up the kids from day camp.

While on way to miniER, they called and said go to the big ER.

I think ok, this may not be good. Start preparing to bolt the office on a dime.

Good thing I did, was told I need to come pick up kids at ER lobby. Hit send on my drafted email to team and boss.

Arrived while she was in triage, hung out with kids until they got restless then took them home. No worries, EKG will come back fine and she’ll be home in time for dinner. EKG only takes about 15 minutes, been there done that.

You know what they say about assumptions right? Got the call I didn’t want. Gonna be an overnight stay. Damn.

So the frantic begins. What do you need, wait, let me write this down. I still screwed up most of it, but got enough right to get through the night. After all, it was only just an overnight for observation stay. Ok, got the list and now I need to feed the kids. Breakfast for dinner. Quick and easy, kids love it, makes them happy. Explain to them their mom will not be coming home that night and get your shoes on so we can go visit her after we hear a room number.

Off to the visit. Pretty typical hospital stuff. Delivered the bag of needs, or at least my attempt to get all the needs covered. I expect full razzing on that from her return home post. I did though really try my best, but its hard with a million things running through your head. Got new list and get the kids home to bed.

Got my new bag of replacement for the screw up supplies. Again, not totally correct, but the important needs were met. Take care of arranging some of her work stuff needs, get the kids in bed and sleeping, mission accomplished for the night. In bed close to on time and sound asleep within minutes.

So the next morning we wake up, I get the kids all ready for day camp with lunches and matching clothing. We load up the car. I turn the key and…

Oh shit. Seriously? Come on. Not now. Dammit.

Ok kids, unload out of the car. My car is dead. Let’s go back inside while I try to figure out what to do next. Thankfully, the first friend I contacted who lives around the corner was awake. Quick little text message and she’s on her way. I don’t know if you read this blog Katie, but thank you SOOO much. 15 minutes later and a google search to car problem, followed with an email to my boss and team, we’re on our way. We dropped the kids off at school and my bummed ride to the hospital where the wife and her car was complete.

The wife didn’t know about the car until I got there and asked for her keys. She’s in the hospital for cardiac purposes and I did not feel the need to add to her stress until I had the situation handled. Quick visit and off to work I went. For about an hour on this day, I had a car to fix and kids to retrieve in 4 hours.

I got them in 3 and my car was fixed in 4. Dead battery as google results suggested.

Got a shower. Quick trip to the grocery store, previously promised ice cream cone date fulfilled, and back to pick up the missus. A couple hours roll by and during my excursion to the bistro(cafeteria named bistro) for a make shift kiddie dinner, we get the news. Another night. Damn.

All I hope right now is that we get some more solid diagnosis. A restful night of sleep for her, although her story on last night is mildly humorous and involves a kazoo. A normal as normal can be morning tomorrow. The car to start each time we need it too. The call or message or verbal delivery of words that we get to come home before dinner. I will go to work for a few hours tomorrow. I think I need to call in for my hockey team to get a sub for tomorrow night. My wife deserves to be in bed, in her bed, as early as she wants.

For tonight though, Edward will keep her safe and sound.
